Rhodes Tower Envelope Renovation
Columbus, OH
Project Description
Fire Seal provided patching and repair of existing spray-applied fireproofing as part of the multi-year building envelope renovation of Rhodes Tower, one of the tallest structures in Columbus. Our work involved restoring fireproofing performance using both standard-density and high-rise bond-strength materials—critical for buildings with occupied floors exceeding 420 feet in height. Fire Seal completed patching at approximately 250+ locations per floor across 34 levels and elevator carts and equipment rooms, addressing a range of conditions while maintaining UL fire-resistance compliance. Materials included Cafco 3000 and 400, applied via hand patching and pump spray methods where required.
The building, constructed in 1974, was due for an upgrade and modernization. Fire Seal’s work was integrated into the broader high-rise rehabilitation effort led by Turner Construction to restore energy performance, aesthetics, and safety in a 480,000 sq. ft. state-owned facility.
